Twitter and Google+ are the next universally used platforms, coming in at 39% and 37%, respectively. Both are must-haves for any business (and why Facebook, Google+ and Twitter are at the core of our social media marketing service).

Once you’ve got the big three covered, your customer avatar and target demographics will lead you to the most appropriate social sites to add-on to your strategy.

Social Network Use by Age

For example, 71% of the 18-29 crowd are on Snapchat! And yes, there are brands leveraging Snapchat.  If this age group is your target market, this is a crucial way to reach them.

Tumblr, Tinder and Instagram are also important for the 18-29 years olds.

The 30-44 age group is looking for love on Tinder too. They’re pretty evenly spread among Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram and Ello.

For your 45-60 year olds, you’ll want to look at LinkedIn and Pinterest.

You can’t – and you shouldn’t – be a part of every network. It’s not sustainable for most small to medium sized businesses. Leverage the data here: ensure you’re present daily on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ and choose 1-2 other platforms that are a match for your target demographic and niche to also participate in.
